Over-the-counter skin products have their limits, and not everyone is willing to undergo invasive surgical procedures to perfect their skin's appearance. That's why Sara Proehl, RN, offers microneedling at Oasis MedSpa & IV Bar in Meridian, ID.

Keep reading to find out how noninvasive microneedling can help give you a clear, glowing complexion.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy) uses fine needles to create micro-injuries in damaged areas of the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body's natural production of elastin and collagen. These nutrients are responsible for your skin's health, tone, and tightness.

As your skin heals from the micro punctures, collagen and elastin are boosted as new skin cells are regenerated to give you a smoother, more even, and brighter complexion. Clients at Oasis MedSpa & IV Bar can also customize their treatments with serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to boost effectiveness.

Can microneedling give me glowing skin?

Microneedling's ability to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin proteins is the key to improving and maintaining skin's firmness, elasticity, and hydration, improving the skin's overall appearance and making it luminous.

Microneedling can also help to increase the absorption of topical skin care products, such as brightening serums and creams. When applied after a microneedling treatment, these products can penetrate deeper into the skin, delivering their active ingredients more effectively to help improve radiance and give you glowing skin. We have seen dramatic improvements in patients who have mild to moderate acne scars with microneedling.

How quickly can microneedling give me more glowing skin?

It takes time for collagen and elastin supplies to increase, so the results of microneedling are not immediate. It can take 1 – 2 months before you see significant changes in the overall appearance of your treated skin.

At Oasis MedSpa & IV Bar in Meridian, ID, Sara recommends that most patients schedule 4 – 6 maintenance treatments every 4 – 6 weeks to attain and maintain their glowing skin. Of course, depending on the health of your skin and your body's ability to heal, you may see results sooner and be able to space out your treatments over longer periods of time.

Who should not get microneedling?

Not everyone is a good candidate for microneedling. For example, you may need to put off microneedling treatment if you have severe acne breakouts or skin infections since the procedure can increase the risk of spreading bacteria to other areas of the skin.

Postponing microneedling is also generally advised for those with sunburn or who plan to get sun exposure in the near future. Microneedling can increase the skin's sensitivity to sun exposure and increase the risk of sunburn.

You should not get microneedling over open wounds or cuts.

Clients with severe skin conditions, such as eczema or psoriasis, thin or sensitive skin, or keloid scarring, may not benefit from microneedling since it can irritate skin and make these conditions worse. That's why it's crucial to have microneedling done in a facility like Oasis MedSpa & IV Bar.
